The Story of Safe Haven
In order to make a great game you have to realize the faults in other games, and here at COMV, we have spent a long time thinking about what our game needs to have that others don’t. The foremost thing is freedom. Lots of games give you some freedom, but still there is usually only one good way to do things, only one path to beat the level, the enemies are always in the same place, one run through the game, and that’s it, no new experiences. But in SAFE HAVEN we wanted to give you more of a role playing game (RPG) feel in the way you want to “take care of business”. Imagine a large field covered with tall grass waving in the wind, blazing flames covers the field, followed by billowing plumes of smoke. The flames provide a big enough obstacles for you as gamer, and the smoke limits your visibility slightly, but to make the situation more intense you have three different Races all fighting against each other and all three are fighting against you. Drop ship after drop ship pours into the field,
supplying an endless amount of troops. Should you fight your way across the field, slowly advancing, you clear out the foes and then advance; you stop, clear out foes again, and then continue to advance. Or should you make a mad dash across the field, hoping you don’t get mowed down by one of the many fighters in the sky. Or should you take another approach and commandeer one of the fighters, and battle your way through the sky. But wait a drop ship with no pilot, sitting on the ground. Should you steal it and then pick up your fellow troops and take them to the next objective. All the decisions are up to you.
Now the RPG like game play is fun and all, but it wouldn’t be anything without your arsenal of weapons and vehicles. The game will be filled with weapons and vehicles. As mentioned before the game will consist of three other races trying to kill “you”, “you” being the human race. Each race will have its own weapons and attack vehicles. That is four different snipers, four different battle rifles, four of everything. Each race will have a light field attack vehicle, each race will have their own tank, and each race will have their own fighter to battle out in the sky. Plus tons of other specialty vehicles that only certain races have. Your options are endless. And they become even more endless after you hear about the weapons system. Most of the guns, human or not, will have a secondary mode (much like PERFECT DARK for the N64) Secondary mode will allow each weapon to have multiple uses, for example the MA-12-Assult Rifle. The rifles main use it to mow down your enemies with its short, but deadly bursts. But when you switch it into secondary mode your weapon now shoots single shots and now you are able to zoom in and use the weapon as a short range, makeshift, 2x sniper rifle. Now take the MD-4 pistol. At first the weapon will fire 12 hollow pointed bullets at a fast, but when switched to secondary mode, a animation shows your character add a longer muzzle to the weapon, and then the character switches out the pistol clip. Now your weapon shoots armor piercing explosive rounds out of a 8 round clip. These rounds cannot be fired as fast as the hollow points can, but they travel farther and can kill people faster, so it’s a trade of speed for accuracy, which do you want. Not only does each weapon have a secondary switch, they also are all customizable. You pick a 10x zoom scope off of another rifle, well now you can switch that scope to any of your other capable weapons. The Same goes for silencers, flash lights, grenade launcher, anything extra.
Games aren’t just made up of overwhelming weapons and vehicles, and they don’t become amazing by the many choices you are given to make. Games are good because of their plots, and yes, SAFE HAVEN does have a cool plot (At last so far). The main point of the game its self isn’t very original, earth is being attacked by alien races, “wow like I haven’t heard that before.” but the small things that take you on an insane journey through the galaxy is what makes our plot so good. The plot has tones of twist and spins, and one enormous plot twist towards the middle of the game, which will have people in shock and aww. I wish I could tell you about all the cool things that are planned, like how our character evolves, and how the war evolves, and how even the enemy races evolve, but if I start giving out small things like that it will ruin the game’s mystery, and then it just won’t be as cool anymore. So until its release, you will have to take my word for it (As the president of COMV) the plot is awesome.
Even though the game has so much more to offer it’s hard to tell it without revealing too much. But that gives you a pretty good look at what kind of game SAFE HAVEN will be, and hopefully that gives you a good idea of how much, insanely awesome, fantabalistic fun you will have playing SAFE HAVEN, the new FPS RPG.
