The Shorts of Madness
The months just keep on getting more exciting each month. This month two new shorts were created, a new logo designed, a new comv video intro designed (the thing at the beginning of our movies), and lots of effects were tested. And that's only the highlights, so much more has happened.
To start off I should probably talk about the shorts, but I'm not going to, I'm saving those for last. The first thing is the new logo, why the change you may ask, well because the old one was unprofessional, complex, and just looked retarded. Back in the year 2000, I wanted to create my own company, a company that produced computerized vehicle, so I took the abbreviation for computer (com), and added a V for vehicles, thus for creating the title COMV. 6 years later the name COMV still stands, and up until now the logo still looked the same despite it being digital and with higher resolution textures (compared to the original which was a scanned colored pencil picture). So simplifying the logo was my first thing to go. I found a rare, nice, and simple font. Then I used the font, added a few things to it to make it more custom and then whala, I have a new logo text. Second step was to make a symbol for the company, one that can be recognizable, like the 3d N for the Nintendo 64 back in the day, or the exclamation point for yahoo.com. So I decided on the V. Since most company use there first letter for a symbol, COMV being “clearly different”, I decided to use the last letter. Also due to the fact that the last letter also stands for what the company is, computerized videos/video games/visuals. Then since the company title stands for three things, the idea of the three dots popped into my head, making the company symbol more prominent and more meaningful. Then last the water ripple idea came from the idea that we are clearly different, and what is clear? Water is. So water ripples and a clear reflection is what finishes up the new logo, hope you like it.
Now since I don't really have much to tell you about the new effects, except that they are very realistic, and I can't wait to use them in one of our movies, I guess I will just skip to talking about the two new shorts. You remember those “non-plot compelled” short movies I was talking about a while ago? Well they ended up being made, and they are shorts, but the whole non-plot compelled thing kind of got thrown out the window. Both shorts were done for two different school projects; one was for a drive smart campaign, and the other for a project on supporting diversity. Both shorts, running 1:30, consisted, surprisingly, of a decent maount of effects, simple but interesting and deep plots, and were the most artistically shot movies I, and the team at COMV, have ever shot to date. And well,... actually there isn't much to say about them except that one, if not both, of them will be posted on the site soon enough.
So why you linger around, constantly refreshing you page until the movie is up, you can read about the first short titled “Wasted” here in the making of.
